Frequently asked questions

How do weighted grades work here?

Each score is multiplied by its weight, those products are added, then divided by the sum of weights: weighted grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weight). Example: 90 at weight 40 and 80 at weight 60 → (90×40 + 80×60) ÷ 100 = 84%.

Can I mix letter grades and percents?

Yes. Type a percent like 92 or a letter like B+. Letters convert to midpoints of standard percent bands (aligned with our GPA calculator): A ≈ 94.5%, B+ ≈ 88%, F = 0%, and so on. School cutoffs can vary.

Do my weights need to sum to 100%?

No. The average uses whatever weights you enter. If the total is under 100%, we also show remaining weight (100 − total) so you can see how much of the syllabus is still outstanding.

How is this different from the Final Grade Calculator?

This tool builds your current course average from weighted assignments. The Final Grade Calculator answers “what do I need on the final?” given a current grade, final weight, and target. Use them together: compute your current average here, then find the needed final score there.
