Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Multiply the number by the percent, then divide by 100. For example, 20% of 450 is 450 × 20 ÷ 100 = 90.

How is percent change calculated?

Percent change is (new − old) ÷ old × 100. Going from 120 to 150 is a 25% increase. A drop from 150 to 120 is a 20% decrease — the base value matters.

What if the starting value is zero?

Percent change from zero is undefined because you would be dividing by zero. Use “percent of” or increase/decrease instead.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. This calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded.
