How is the needed final score calculated?
If w is the final’s weight as a fraction (final weight ÷ 100), then required final = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w. Example: current 85%, final 30%, target 90% → (90 − 85 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 ≈ 101.7%.
What if my final has a different weight?
Enter whatever percent your syllabus assigns to the final (for example 20, 25, or 40). The rest of the course is treated as already reflected in your current grade.
Can I use letter grades?
This tool works in percents. Convert your letter cutoffs to percents first (for example B+ ≈ 87), then enter those as current and target. School scales vary.
What if the result is over 100% or negative?
Over 100% means the target is impossible with a normal final score. Zero or negative means you are already guaranteed the target even with 0% on the final. A 0% final weight with a current grade below the target is also impossible.
